WATERCO PARTNERSHIP HELPS DRIVE 244% INCREASE IN VARIABLE-SPEED POOL PUMP UPGRADES

Sydney, Australia – Monday 21 September 2026 – A NSW Government rebate supported by Waterco and its Swimart franchise network has driven a 244 per cent increase in customers replacing single-speed pool pumps with energy-efficient variable speed models compared with the same period last year.

As both a pool equipment manufacturer and franchisor, Waterco contributed product, retail and installation expertise to the initiative. All 29 NSW Swimart stores and the network’s mobile technicians completed specialist training to help customers upgrade effectively.

The program brings together the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), Waterco, Electric Future, Swimart and OnPoint Compliance.

Waterco Domestic Water Care Product Manager George Flory says the results demonstrate the importance of combining financial incentives with professional and practical industry support.

“Variable-speed pumps have been available for many years, but many pool owners remain unaware of how much energy their existing pump may be using,” he explains. “The rebate provides an incentive to upgrade, while trained technicians help customers select, install and operate the technology effectively.”

Beyond the rebate

Unlike single-speed pumps, which operate at one fixed speed, variable-speed models can be adjusted to suit filtration requirements, reducing electricity consumption and operating costs.

Electric Future National Business Development Manager Angus Taylor says the 244 per cent increase shows what can be achieved when government policy is supported by established industry networks.

OnPoint Compliance developed the framework supporting installer documentation, evidence collection and independent verification.

The initiative provides a potential blueprint for future household energy-efficiency programs by combining government incentives with technical expertise, trained local delivery and robust compliance.

NSW pool owners can contact their local Swimart store to check their eligibility and learn more about upgrading to an energy-efficient variable-speed pump.
